Image uploading has now been enabled. You can add images of up to 200k to your message. Please don't go too crazy with this, if it increases the load on the web server too much then I will have to turn it off. Simply click the "Upload Attachment..." button on the message form, and follow the instructions to upload your image. The image you add to your post will then be displayed in the preview, without the need for an image placeholder.

My apologies for the board being down earlier today. My ISP had a problem with their database configuration, which has now been fixed.

Archiving has now been enabled for the board, in order to increase convenience and limit bandwidth use. A maximum of about 200 threads can exist in a given topic at one time. Threads in excess of this limit will immediately and automatically be moved to the "archive" thread at the bottom of the list. A maximum of 30 messages can exist in a given thread at one time. Messages in excess of this limit will immediately and automatically be moved to the "archive" link at the top of the thread.

My apologies for the board being down yesterday. Traffic on the site exceeded my monthly bandwidth limit of 15 gigabytes. I just had the limit increased to 50 gigabytes (at no actual change in my fees, thankfully).

If anyone had problems accessing the board over the last 24 hours, it is because the site was down due to technical difficulties. They seem to have been resolved now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Registration is now required to post on this board. Click "profile" on the top menu, then click the "register" button. You will need to provide a valid email address, which is not displayed to other board members.

Welcome to the shiny new board! The software has been upgraded to Discus 4 Pro. This allows powerful new features like automatic registration, IP banning, user profiles, and other good stuff. I also took the opportunity to remove the menu frame from the left side of the screen. The menu is now at the top of each page and much smaller. So you will have that much more screen space to use for reading messages! Registration is still not required to post on the board. However, with the new software it is now practical for me to require registration should trolls provide too much of a problem. |

My apologies for the recent board down times. My web provider recently moved the site's server to a different data center. The board software has been encountering some glitches (write failures). Whenever a glitch happens, the board shuts itself down until I manually reactivate it. |

AlternateHistory.com has moved to a new server! The site should still look the same, but it is now living on a "real" web server instead of on a PC in my house. This means: faster connections, more reliability, and no more of those darn outages happen when I have to move or turn off the computer or there is a rolling blackout or something. I found a web provider that is inexpensive, provides lots of great options, AND unlike most lets me have a bunch of different FTP accounts. So people can still have their own free home pages on this site, in fact their service should be even better now. The only "catch" is I have to set up the FTP again so it may be a day or so before web site owners can upload. Thanks for your patience, everybody! I know the board has been unreliable in the last couple of weeks and that is part of the reason why I chose to make this move. |

OOPS! Posting is now enabled again. I broke it by accident when "fixing" some configuration files. |

The site is now back up after a five day absence. Sorry about that folks, I had some unanticipated problems in getting everything set up at my new place. |

WARNING! The AlternateHistory.com site will be TEMPORARILY going down late on Tuesday, April 15. I am moving to a new place, which does have high speed access but I cannot guarantee that the site will be back up immediately because of certain technical issues. (It needs to have its own IP address, and then that new address has to propagate around the world). Hopefully it will only be down for a couple of days.

As you can see from the topic list, the book discussion and reviews topic has been renamed for discussion of books, movies, and games. Also, a new topic has been added for discussing, reviewing, rating, and posting links to alternate history web sites. |

Welcome to the AlternateHistory.com discussion board! It's just been brought online for the first time as of August 30, 2000. The intent of this site is to create a powerful discussion board service that is accessible to all of the alternate history fans on the Internet. It's still a new site, though, so problems are to be expected. Please report them to the administration so that the site can be improved as efficiently as possible. |
