  1. December 28th, 1941: The Day of Infamy

You know, it wasn't that much later IOTL when USS Washington gave a heck of an accounting of herself at night under "Ching" Lee at the Second Naval Battle Of Guadalcanal. Radar spotted with the right man in charge (which probably means not Pye) is devastating.
  2. December 28th, 1941: The Day of Infamy

FDR was ex-Assistant Secretary of the Navy. He was well steeped in Navy tradition. An implicit example of him naming a ship is USS Shangri-La (CV-38). Plus, note that, IRL, all of the ships named for carriers sunk in battle in WWII were Essex class - even to the point of naming an Essex class...

I don't think FDR would do it that way. But it is your TL.
  4. WI: Kimmel Is Not Relieved By Pye?

That is nice, but I don't have the $20 just lying around. Care to summarize?
  5. December 28th, 1941: The Day of Infamy

I'm still reading. Just because I have a few minor problems with a TL doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. You're doing well here.
  6. WI: Kimmel Is Not Relieved By Pye?

Not At Home The computer system here at the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute does not seem to like that URL. Apparently I will have to wait until I get home to see it.

I see what happened. I missed 3rd Submarine (pg 339). However, 3rd Submarine was sailing for Kwajalein since they would need to refuel. Plenty of opportunity to halt them there.
  9. Keep Battleships In Service?

Hah! There are only two kinds of ships in the Navy - Submarines and Targets. You do know that the Iowas were equipped with Phalanx, right?
  10. December 28th, 1941: The Day of Infamy

November 16 is when the subs began to be deployed (At Dawn We Slept p343 HB).
  11. Keep Battleships In Service?

Then why build surface ships at all?
  12. WI Guam

  13. Keep Battleships In Service?

What do you mean by upgrade? There was a plan afoot to pull the aft turret and replace them with VLS.
  14. WI Guam

I think he still has Hiryu and Soryu off dealing with Wake Island.
