I'll copy what Karma Phuntsho writes about it from his History of Bhutan when i get home. Bhutan became the normal name for it in English when George Bogle rather arbitrarily differentiated the northern country as Tibet and the southern one as Bhutan. But now that I'm rethinking it, the...

I really love this map and I hate to nitpick, but just if you're interested: there was no Bhutan until 1616. Otherwise, absolutely beautiful. I found myself trying to read everything on it.
  3. How can Madrid become the largest city in Europe during the 17th and 18th Century?

It had a lot of problems. I think sitting on their pile of gold n silver instead of letting it flow is definitely counter productive to her capital balooning to a million citizens. Not wrong (though I can't claim to know very much about the Renaissance Italian economy) though I think comparin...
  4. How can Madrid become the largest city in Europe during the 17th and 18th Century?

I always wondered what might have happened if Spain had embraced capitalism and abandoned that dinosaur of mercantilism early. Madrid being a major European urban power might be a side-effect of that.
  5. AHC: If You Accept

Like Saudi Arabia style? With a pod so far back, almost anything is possible.
  6. AHC: If You Accept

I mean, considering that England has a comparatively clean succession since 1066 when compared with most European countries, or Japan which has had the same dynasty since BC, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

I was fishing to see how much interest there is. We (obviously) don't have to touch the bad stuff. Looking at you, Robert Conroy. Rather the classics that have influenced the genre. Maybe switch off between published works and classics from the site.

For this reason I was wondering if we might start an AH reading club on the board. Introduce newcomers to classics of AH, and reread stuff we like.
  9. DBWI: Opinions on "The Khaganate" timeline?

You have to read between some of the lines. His Tibet is a little too Holy and less Empire than ours. Ruled by incarnate lamas installed by Mongol successor hordes rather than, you know, the obvious: indigenous hereditary kings.

N Not sure why you think this is stopping anyone from posting a map.

If you have a thread in mind, point the way. There's no excuse, regardless of language or culture for labeling a whole group as criminals and calling it your "ideal" scenario. Hiding behind ignorance and culture is just that, hiding.

OP is posting in an English-language forum. OP took the time to translate from Russian to English. So either OP is a shit translator, in which case he's been corrected that that's not the appropriate way to talk about entire races of people and "their culture," or he's hiding behind "it's just...

There really isn't much of a difference between passing along racist, bigoted information and being racist yourself. It's possible to do so with commentary, with a sense of irony, with a fictional perspective that brings about a sense of foreboding or philosophical detachment (as is often the...

"This map depicts my ideal United States of America" "New Orleans - the center of African American culture and, consequently, crime" Riiiight.
  15. LOTR Basemap

I haven't done my yearly LotR read through. So I suppose I could volunteer a bit of my reading energy towards that. I do love me some Middle Earth.
