  1. Cato's Cavalry

Wonderful ending to a great TL! Thanks!
  2. A True and Better Alamo: The Battle For Wake Atoll

The big problem with the Ranger is well Range...it has about 2/3 the un-refueled range of the big carriers and carried less than 60 percent of Aviation fuel of a Fleet carrier. They could treat it as a large escort carrier but it has the crew of a fleet carrier but the range/fuel stowage about...
  3. Cato's Cavalry

This sets up some very interesting possible dynamics, very interesting. I look forward to seeing where you go with this next!
  4. A True and Better Alamo: The Battle For Wake Atoll

Wow, hell of an update. The Japanese are going to be viscous after that battle.
  5. Cato's Cavalry

    Wow, wonderful update!
  6. Japan wins at Midway?

That would be scary! the bomber would be almost as big as the ship (or it would seem so as it bore down on you).
  7. Japan wins at Midway?

Yea I think for the most part the heavy's stopped being used for anti-shipping strikes after about mid-1943 except in rare cases. There were just enough Light and Medium bombers to avoid needing the heavy's for these strikes where they were not effective.
  8. Japan wins at Midway?

Well "inefficient" is a relative term, the cost of the bombs, or even a squadron of B-17's is less than the cost of a Carrier so it is worth it if you manage to sink or even damage the ship. I also dispute that the numbers were never available to use B-17's the way they were intended. They...
  9. Japan wins at Midway?

The problem with B-17 anti-shipping strikes was that nobody followed pre-war doctrine. Everyone was too tied up in the Norden bomb-sight propaganda. The Doctrine was supposed to be a minimum of a 2 squadron in tight formation (12 planes) in order to not give the target ship room to maneuver away...
  10. A True and Better Alamo: The Battle For Wake Atoll

    Wonderful update, thanks!
  11. What If - Finland had been prepared for the Winter War?

    Wow, intense, wonderful post.
  12. IBM Keeps Windows OS

The big problem with Xerox is that their upper management didn't believe that the stuff coming out of PARC was worth anything at all. They were completely and totally focused on copiers. The more likely company to compete is ATT or one of the Baby Bells after the breakup. Basically without...
  13. IBM Keeps Windows OS

The problem with this is it involves changes back in 1979/80 when IBM was shopping for DOS. If it doesn't keep control of DOS it can't afford to buy out MS to keep control of Windows in the late 1980's (the ONLY way Bill Gates was going to give up control of Windows to IBM was a buy-out). So...
  14. Cato's Cavalry

Oh wow, what a great update. Very nice writing, I could almost smell the rotten moldy wood... Tom.
  15. Splinters - Rommel Dies At Alam Halfa

Not just on land, there was a lot of learning going on in the air as well...and air/land coordination, and logistics, and planning, and...oh my the Allies are somewhat screwed.
  16. Splinters - Rommel Dies At Alam Halfa

    Wonderful updates! Thanks!
  17. Japanese Invasion of Alaska and Hawii

Um Alaska wasn't a state in the 1940's. However your basic point of actually occupying US territory stands.
  18. A True and Better Alamo: The Battle For Wake Atoll

Wow what a great surprise update, thanks! The knock-on effects from Wake are turning out to be fairly major - the weapon systems are one thing, but the impact of no internment camps will have ripples for decades. I love what you are doing with this TL! Tom.
  19. Which one would be the best ally for Germany in WWI era: Britain, France, or Russia?

I think Anglo-German, this even had a chance if the Germans hadn't started the Naval arms race with Great Britain in the early years of the 20th.
  20. A True and Better Alamo: The Battle For Wake Atoll

Wonderful update! I assume Army, Navy and Marine Corps are the three service branches right?
