Baker retired in '84 irl and Dole took his spot in '85. Ford retires as VP after a term due to his age, which raises further questions about Reagan's own age (which is why he does slightly worse than irl) and Baker gets picked due to Ford suggesting him and Baker wanting to launch off from it for a presidential bid in '88.
