Hmm. Very Tricky.
The problem is, the whole prinely state thing pusehed the Indians/Pakistanis in general to have a rather dim view of monarchy-the republic was the way forward. And anyway, the Mughals were Muslim, so the only way to get them
any popularity in India is to avoid partition, which is nearly impossible in 1948.
Then again, the last Mughal Emperor
was deposed for his role in the Mutiny-so I s'pose they could romanticise that. For this scenario, at least, extremists are your friends. Maybe Pakistan gets smacked-don't knnow when, don't know how, but totally, utterly smashed. Maybe the US has some massively important thing to do while the USSR, India, and Bangledeshi rebels lay the smackdown.
Then soe kind of really, really scary regime comes to power in Pakistan, dedicated to the spread of the culture and word of Islam across the subcontinent (assuming, of course, a suitable candodate can be found)...
They probably wouldn't last very long, but stil, it meets the challenge.
