How plausible is a Soviet invasion of Japan (besides Hokkaido) during WW2?

As the title says

Probably not very. The Soviet Union despite their "inexhaustible" manpower were kind of getting to the point of being bled white. The U.S. will be providing most of the troops for the invasion. I can see some Soviet troops coming in and helping so the Americans are a little grateful, but fullscale invasion is IMO doubtful.

Very plausible. The Soviets had had plans to do that for decades and they had had the breather of three months to rebuild forces. Manpower was available. Remember after the German surrender, all three allied powers began partial demobalisation. The Sovs could have brought sufficient forces to bear against Japan.

The Soviets will probably take Hokkaido with little trouble. Honshu, on the other hand...

Ah well; that's what commissars are for.

But did Soviets had enough lift capability? It doesn't matter how many million soldiers you have, if you can't use more than a few thousands of them.

They had sufficient lift capability and logistically being so close to the Japan meant that they did not have the same issues the US had.

AK a link to Soviet lift capacity, As I saw very little of any use in an opposed landing in the Red Fleet. Where are the LST class ships in fact there are barely any modern ships in the Pacific Fleet circa 45. Also by 45 the WAllies realized the USSR was a potential adversary,Why give them yet more territory by supplying said lift not only to move there troops but to there supplies when every last ton of shipping was needed for Coronet and Olympic. Where not even get into the fact they have ZERO experience in opposed amphibious ops.

So basically as plausible as the Sea Mammal that shall not be named

Even a Invasion of Hokkaido is very unlikely. Spheres of Influence had already been divided by agreements. Russia got Sakhalin, the US got all the rest of Japan.
Unles Stalin wanted to get in a giant Pissing Contest with the US, it is unlikely he would try to invade Japan.

An invasion of Hokkaido and northern Honshu was possible in late 1945 and early 1946 based on the Project Hula shipping being sent to the Soviet Union through Lend Lease. This included short lift landing craft and escorts.
