No Comics Code Authority and supremacy of superheroes

In a world without the Comics Code Authority, would American comics have undergone a similar trajectory as European comics or Japanese manga - that is, diversity of genres and demographics?

Or, that being said, was the comics industry doomed to try and appeal to an ever shrinking group of fans, CCA or not?

Nope, but Super heroes where a very USA centric phenomenon and might still dominated, but something more manageable, like 50% of market or less and more diversity, EC comics might survive and DC and Timely-Marvel might have secondary prints for niche genders are not just poor's superhero spinoffs

The Comics Code Authority seems to have been primarily aimed at such horror comics as those produced by EC Comics -- yes, the publishers of MAD, which was reclassified as a "magazine" instead of a "comic" to get around this.

One effect might be more Catwoman stories. The character was dropped after the Comics Code came into effect because she was too sexy and did not return until the sixties.
