Maybe you all already know about this, but I just came across it while reading Bankers and Pashas: International Finance and Economic Imperialism in Egypt by David Landes.
Amazing that this guy escaped this unpunished, given the number of lives lost, but it does open a few interesting AH opportunities... can anyone thing of a way to get a real Poyais going? It seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened...
