The Al-Jazeera War

A curious factoid relating to everyone's least-liked TV station is that it provoked major ire from the Saudis right from its establishment up to now (it was uncensored and VERY popular within the KSA) and they threatened to shut it down or pressure the emir into shutting it down. WHAT IF, some time before or after 9/11, they decided to launch an invasion of Qatar to shut it down?

Firstly, al-Jazeera has more journalistic integrity than all the major US networks combined.

Secondly, invading a nation just to shut down a TV channel seems a bit excessive, and Saudi Arabia rarely takes rash actions.

But, if it did come to war, it would be quite a quick engagement - Qatar wouldn't really be able to repell the Saudis. Of course, if the target is a television broadcaster and a corps of broadcasters, then they may very well find that the target may not even be there when the troops turn up - televisors are quite mobile, and could easily relocate. So... futility all round, really...

What about the US fighting against Saudi-Arabia to defend Free Media? A better reason for war than in Irak and IMO considering the War against Terror a better goal, too...

At the very least, you're looking at the nastiest border the Middle East has seen in a dog's age. Worst case scenario, you're talking full scale regional conflict with the United States playing a desperate balancing act between two of its regional allies.

And as an aside, al-Jazeera's journalist integrity seems to me at best inconsistent.
