WI: No post-war deportations?

So what if for some reason there were no post-war mass deportations? No population transfer between Poland and USSR, no mass expulsion of Germans. I think it won't affect much until after the end of Cold War. I imagine that in this case the reunification of Germany would not be possible because if I remember this correctly in OTL there were fears that FRG would try to press its claims on former german eastern territories, and ITTL these territories have a large German minority so these claims might look a bit more justifiable. Also, any chances of assimilation of German population by Czechoslovakia or Poland?

Gone Fishin'
World war 3 would have occurred sometime in the 1970s .
...Why? The Soviets are sitting on Eastern Europe and the US is sitting on Western Europe. No European state can hope to challenge either of them. Ethnic conflicts will be frozen for the duration of the Cold War.

Now, this might make the 1990s "interesting," and you might see more Yugoslav-style conflicts, which would be no fun for anyone.
